WHAT IS RIZATRIPTAN?
Rizatriptan is an effective and efficient migraine relief medication which belongs to a class of medicines known as triptans. Like other medications in this group, it is proven in treating both the symptoms and the cause of a migraine attack effectively.
Triptans are not the same as painkillers as they don’t just mask pain. Instead they serve to tackle the dilating blood vessels considered to be a primary cause of migraines.
HOW TO USE RIZATRIPTAN ORODISPERSIBLE
Before taking Rizatriptan, please read the patient information leaflet, which can be found at the bottom of this page. Rizatriptan is suitable for anybody over the age of 18 who is suffering from migraines.
You should place one tablet of Rizatriptan on the tongue and allow it to dissolve in your saliva and then swallow. Alternatively, you can place the tablet in a glass of water and allow it to dissolve before consuming. You should take the first dose at the onset of your migraine as soon as possible. Do not take it before any symptoms have occurred as it is not a preventative medication and will not stop the migraine from occurring. If you experience some relief after taking the first dose and your symptoms return, you can take another tablet at least 2 hours after your first dose. If you did not experience any benefit from the first tablet, you should not take another dose.
Rizatriptan is not dependent on food, so you can take it with or without food alongside. The usual dose of Rizatriptan is 10mg, however the lower dose of 5mg is recommended for those patients also taking propranolol for their migraines.
The maximum daily dose of Rizatriptan is 2 tablets in 24 hours.
