Galderma

Differin is available both as a gel and cream. It contains the active substance, adapalene which has anti-inflammatory effects reducing spots, soreness and irritation.

How to use

Differin should be applied to acne prone areas, usually once a day in the evenings. It is important to ensure it is applied to dry skin, so makeup and oils should be removed from the skin prior to use. As with all acne treatments, it can take a few weeks to months to notice improvements in your skin.

You should assess treatment after 8 weeks and stop if you have not noticed any improvements. If your skin has improved, you may stop treatment after 12 weeks and restart again if your acne flares up again. There is no limit to how long you can use Differin for and it may be used with other topical preparations (that do not contain retinoids) at different times of the day as directed.

Side effects

As with any topical medication, you should always test on a small area of your skin to check for any unusual reactions. Differin can cause:

  • Dry skin
  • Irritation
  • Burning sensation
  • Redness

If you experience any irritation or sensitivity you should stop using the product.

You should read the manufacturers information leaflet found at the bottom for further information.

It is advised you use adequate sun protection (sunscreen or clothing) whilst using this topical preparation as it can make your skin more sensitive to UV rays.

Pregnancy and Breastfeeding

Differin should not be used if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you find out you are pregnant whilst using Differin, you should stop using immediately.

Differin is safe to use If breastfeeding as minimal amounts are absorbed into the body. You should avoid applying to areas which can come into contact with your baby, such as the chest when breastfeeding.
